Sacred Tattoo

As if a permanent mala or rosary, intentional tattoo has the potential of being used as a spiritual technology which provides constant reminder of the guiding philosophies and principles by which we choose to live.  We accept into our flesh living monuments of this guidance.

The tattoo sessions I offer are only available as rituals to invite a deeper connection to self.  This includes conversation to tap me into your intentionality behind the tattoo, so that it is reflected in the final image.  To start the session we may drop in with meditation, working with subtle energies and other modalities that are part of your own practice to create sacred space.  While receiving the tattoo you are invited to speak out loud an invocation of the new era of their life you are stepping into.

Tattoo is an ancient practice which infuses our physical being with the wisdom and beauty of our inner world.  For many, there is a reclamation of our physical being as we imbue our bodies with sacred symbols as proclamations of bodily sovereignty.

Tattoo is a manifestation of an inner process.

These may be drawn from existing spiritual traditions or from our own unique creations channelled from deep intuition. These may mark a period of transition and closing of a chapter of our lives;  the symbols may document the love, strife or celebration we are moving through or towards.

I regard the tattoo process as a deeply personal, potentially emotional and outwardly empowering threshold to cross.

These tattoo sessions are rituals.  Physical pain creates psychic charge, and as that charge builds we can tap into otherwise subtle or hidden energies within ourselves. In the same way those who intentionally fast, Sun Dancers choose to suffer as a way to deepen their own prayer, the sensation of tattoo can help induce trance.

Throughout the session, participants are invited to keep their focus on their intention and deeper meaning of the tattoo.  This process can become deeply emotional, cathartic or spiritually expansive.

This is a threshold.

This is a space of deep meditation and serves as a gateway into self-knowing.  This passage can give us valuable insight in how we should up elsewhere in our lives.

When there is pain, are you avoiding it?  Are you dissociating from it?  Can you be right here and now, and even lean into the sensation?  Can you meet the moment without resistance and just allow yourself to let go into this?  No matter how intense or how much you want to fall into your defense, can you meet this moment?  At what point does the needle become suffering or pain?

Can you find spiritual worth in opening yourself up to this sensation, and allowing the indwelling of this symbol into your body?  Can you meet discomfort with grounded nobility, and bring that presence to other areas of your life?  Can I see the beauty of this experience?

I tattoo solely by machineless hand-poked method, which lends itself to this meditative practice, and allows the body to heal more readily.  Each medium I work evokes a particular style, and reflected in my work is an organic and dynamic esthetic.
