Holistic Counseling
& Spiritual Crisis

Healing is a path of self-realization.  Moving into the life we want for ourselves often means coming to meet, hold and integrate the wounded parts that have long been seeking connection.  Inner freedom is being able to walk without these wounded parts controlling our behavior.   Often, the richest and most direct path to make contact with these wounded parts is through the direct sensations of our body and nervous system.  This an intricate weaving of our psychological, emotional and physical responses to the world.

Every container is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Holistic & Somatic Counseling

I offer holsitic counseling and coaching, with the aim to help move individuals towards a greater sense of well being and aliveness.  Somatic based practices are integral to my counseling containers. All of what we think and feel is held throughout our nervous systems and embded in our bodies.  There is an invitation for indivduals to grow curious about what is happening within their bodies as they enter emotional states, and follow the wisdom of their body to reveal valuable information.  With in-depth familiarity of the nervous sysyem and it's various presentations, I follow person-centered and trauma-informed principles.  I aim to empower individuals to bridge the gap between body and mind, and help resolve stuck or unresolved fight, flight or fawn responses.

One aim of these containers is to help individuals lean into their existing strengths to have a greater ability to stay present with and hold greater emotional charge.  Somatic based practices help individuals maintain a a neutral witnessing and observation of sensations of their internal world.

Navigating Spiritual Crisis

I am a resource to individuals navigating spiritual crisis or sudden psychic emergence.  This spontaneous emergence and its potentially overwhelming intensity can disrupt daily life.  Awakening is simply a remembering.  However, this may sharply contradict one's view of themselves and understanding of the world.  Those emerging on the other side often have a deep knowing of their life's work, and are no longer plagued by the dense patterns that permeated their daily lives.

However, psycho-spiritual death and rebirth is messy.  Unfortunately our culture does not have an adequate understanding of this process.  The loved one's of someone experiencing sudden spiritual emergency may be
at a loss of what to do.  If institutions get involved they may mis-identify and diagnose this sacred process as other disruptive and serious conditions, such as a psychotic break or schizophrenia.

The awakening process is recognized in many wisdom traditions by the name of Kundalini activation, Shamanic initiation, Yogic illness and more recently, ascension symptoms.  On a personal level, this may be  marked by the sudden influx of trauma imprints, heightened senses, somatic catharsis and insight into one's self, others and the world.  Additionally, this may include psychic phenomena such as telepathic perceptions, paranormal phenomena,  hyper-empathic connections, and difficulty distinguishing internal and external experiences.

In this 'upgrading process' there may be a flood of unresolved biographic content and uncovered memories, extreme cycling of emotions and states of consciousness, ancestral and past life memories, speaking in tongues and abrupt shifts of perception of one's self and the world.  Learning to navigate this process is a continual lesson in allowing the movement of life-force to be uninhibited.

In working together, we will explore ways to slow down and ground this process and cathartically express pent up energy in productive ways.  Once we find a cruising altitude, we will explore strategies to lean into this inner-opening.  I can recommend reading materials and spiritual thinkers who can help the meaning-making process for you and your loved ones.  Ultimately, you should be able to have practices in your tool kit to help navigate this sometimes unpredictable spiritual emergence.

Steve, holistic counseling

"I have been a Registered Nurse for 20+ years and a Combat Medic before that.  I have worked within the western medical framework for a long time,  That framework for mental health did not work for me, and that's how I found Tyler.  He blends traditional western therapy along with his knowledge of Eastern modalities and first nation philosophies in a way that aligned with my map of the world.  Tyler is a caring individual who is highly trained and insightfgul.  He has the skill to meet you where you might be in your life.  He also ended up working with my partner when she was having a tough time, and really helped her move through some blocks she was experiencing. I would recommend him to any of my patients."
